Events for April 25, 2010
Out on a Limb, adventures with nature and art
We have brought the outdoors, indoors! Create a nature's symphony in the Forest Jam, climb into our treehouse, send leaves whirling through space in the Whirlwind Tree (then rake them up and do it again!), write an ode to Nature at our storytelling table, then build a home for a gnome. This travelling exhibition was developed by the San Jose Children's Museum and will travel on to the Boston Children's Museum in June.
April Gallery Exhibit – Postcard Perceptions: Photographs by Joshua Taylor
Local photographer Joshua Taylor captures the beauty of Holyoke’s past and present with photographs of iconic Holyoke inspired by images from vintage postcards. Joshua Taylor’s modern-day incarnations compare Holyoke’s idealized past and the potential he sees for the city’s future. On view through May 3.

Pioneer Valley Capella: The Evening Primrose: Four Centuries of Floral Choral Music
The Pioneer Valley Cappella will present “The Evening Primrose: Four Centuries of Floral Choral Music” at Wistariahurst Museum. In this nod to the season, the program is made up entirely of compositions inspired by flowers.
“Five Flower Songs” by the late British composer, Benjamin Britten, is a series of odes to the Daffodil, the months of Spring, Marsh Flowers, the Evening Primrose and the very British “Green Broom”. The group will also sing three pieces by Eric Whitacre, a living American composer, with particularly lovely texts, one by Emily Dickinson (“I Hide Myself”) and another by Federico Garcia Lorca (“With a Lily in your Hand”). Other composers on the program include Arcadelt, Gesualdo, Marenzio and Robert Schumann.
Established in Northampton in the 1980s, the Pioneer Valley Cappella is an auditioned ensemble of 24 singers performing unaccompanied choral music from early Renaissance to modern composers. And, to complete the flower theme, the group is directed by Dr. Carolina Flores, a native of Spain. Come celebrate the season in song.
