Out on a Limb, adventures with nature and art
We have brought the outdoors, indoors! Create a nature's symphony in the Forest Jam, climb into our treehouse, send leaves whirling through space in the Whirlwind Tree (then rake them up and do it again!), write an ode to Nature at our storytelling table, then build a home for a gnome. This travelling exhibition was developed by the San Jose Children's Museum and will travel on to the Boston Children's Museum in June.
April Gallery Exhibit – Postcard Perceptions: Photographs by Joshua Taylor

"Voices of Working People’s History," a Theatrical Celebration of May Day 2010
“Voices of Working People’s History” is produced by Western Massachusetts Jobs with Justice, a coalition for workers’ rights.
Space is limited. Reserve a seat in advanceby calling Western Massachusetts Jobs with Justice at (413) 827-0301 or emailing wmjwj@wmjwj.org. Donations to support WMJWJ will be requested at the door, which opens at 6:30pm.
A shorter one-half hour version of the play, with free admission and no reservations, will be performed at the Visitor’s Center on Sunday, May 2 at 2:00pm as part of an opening reception for an exhibit of May Day labor history posters collected by Stephen Lewis. The exhibit can be viewed at the performance the previous night, and will be on display through June 12, 2010.
The play, inspired by Howard Zinn, features dramatic readings and lots of songs from people who make history happen, but are usually left out of history books. This year’s performance is dedicated to and includes the voices of George Markham (8/15/1909-10/25/2009) and Howard Zinn (8/24/1922-1/27/2010). It is particularly relevant to Holyoke because it features a Holyoke Transcript Reporter; Tom Mooney; Frances Perkins; Anna Sullivan; plus many other Western Massachusetts voices.

CHAMBER MUSIC AT WISTARIAHURST:
FRIENDS AND LOVERS: MUSIC OF SPRINGTIME - Directed by David Perkins
Chamber Music at Wistariahurst returns with another spring program devoted to the romantic music of the two Schumanns, Robert and Clara, and their intimate friend and colleague, Johannes Brahms.
The program includes two choruses by Robert Schumann and Brahms, to be sung by the Schubertians chorus, conducted by Laura Jenkins, and songs and duets by the three composers, sung by Ms. Jenkins, mezzo-soprano Eileen Ruby, and baritone Steven Curylo. After intermission comes Brahms' wonderful Horn Trio in E-flat, with Monica Jakuc Leverett, piano, Sarah Briggs, violin, and Jean Jeffries, horn. Pianist Alissa Leiser will perform an Intermezzo by Brahms for solo piano, and accompany the chorus and several of the singers. In addition, Ms. Jakuc Leverett performs Clara Schumann's "Andante con sentimento" for solo piano and accompanies Ms. Ruby in a selection of Brahms songs. Among the more rarely heard works on the program is the passionate duet, "Die Nonne und der Ritter," to be performed by Ms. Ruby and Mr. Curylo.
In short, a rich and varied program of music touched with the special intensity and introspection of these three composers.
