Collage Instructional Workshop
Join artist Peter Dellert for an introductory class of collage techniques using leaves, flowers, grasses and bark; to be combined with papers, old text, maps, stamps and natural materials from the surrounding area. Issues of scale, design, color, texture, patterns, and composition will be discussed. Participants will create and leave with their own collage. Fee is $30. Registration is required. "An Afternoon with Schubert." Chamber Music at Wistariahurst
Join Wistariahurst in welcoming "An Afternoon with Schubert." Chamber Music at Wistariahurst, under the direction of David Perkins, opens its season by bringing together some of the best musicians in the Pioneer Valley for its fourth annual Schubertiad, a festive celebration of masterpieces of the Viennese composer, Franz Schubert. Among the highlights will be the rarely heard "Notturno" for guitar, flute, cello and violin, and the great A-minor sonata.
Participants in this year's series include Tanya Blaich, piano, Sarah Briggs Cornelius, violin, Olga Gaybaryan, piano, William Ghezzi, guitar, Jane Hanson, mezzo-soprano, Monica Jakuc Leverett, piano, Volcy Pelletier, cello, David Perkins, baritone, Maria Scotera, flute, Peter Shea, tenor, and the Schubertians chorus, dir. by Jane Hanson.
The series' end of winter concert will be a program titled "New England Originals" with music by Edward MacDowell, Mrs. H.H.A. Beach, and Charles Ives on Sunday, March 29. The spring concert will be "Love Triangle: Clara and Robert Schumann, and Johannes Brahms," on Sunday, April 5. Refreshments are served at each concert.

Historical Perspectives: A Taste of Tea
Tea is extraordinary! It has a colorful history, world-wide sources, and amazingly varied tastes and traditions. Among the various types of tea, black, oolong, green and white teas constitute a range of tastes as broad as red, white, and rose wines. Learn about the history of tea from The Tea Guys, and enjoy a sampling of tea blends.
Historical Perspectives is a lecture series held at Wistariahurst Museum on the first Wednesday evening of each month at 6 p.m. The series will invite a wide array of people from the valley who are delighted to share their knowledge of the people, natural resources, and industry of Holyoke and the Connecticut River Valley. Admission $3

The Massachusetts Academy of Ballet Educational Training Association: Nutcracker and Sweets
Treat yourself to a new twist on this holiday classic! Through narration and dance, and in the historic setting of the Wistariahurst Museum, students of the Massachusetts Academy of Ballet and members of the Ballet Educational Training Association perform this magical story as it may have taken place in Holyoke in the 1890's. Children dancing, magic dolls, mice, soldiers, snowflakes and more! A reception of sweets will follow the performance. The Massachusetts Academy of Ballet Educational Training Association (MA BETA) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate Holyoke and the surrounding communities about the art of classical ballet through performances at schools, senior centers and community venues.
